May Day Baskets

This is just a reminder to everyone that tomorrow is the First Day of May, or May Day. As a child every year on May 1, my mother would help us gather flowers from the yard, then we would make bouquets and deliver them around to the neighbors, my grandmother and my aunts. She would help us wrap them with ribbons and fix them so that they would not dry out. Delivering the colorful bouquets always seemed to mark spring and the beginning of warmer days. We would wrap our flowers in paper cones but a small basket would be cute to. Think about it is there anyone that you would like to give a touch of spring to? Happy May Day! Empty Nest

My house is full of boxes! This is not my favorite part of moving. Sorting. Ick! Well the nice thing is I have a chance to go through 18 years of marriage and children's memories. With my youngest daughter getting married, we are now empty nesters. I always thought that was for someone else, now it seems it is my turn. I am finding all sorts of boxes of partially used crayons and lots of little pictures that the girls drew for me. They were always making me some little card that told me how much they love me, how precious those memories are. At one time they seemed like more clutter. Today I clutch them close to my heart and one by one I wipe the tears of the past. I have been putting the wonderful drawings into plastic sleeves so that I can continue to treasure them. I am not good with change. I resist it until I can resist no more.
I know that life is in a constant state of change and nothing is really staying the same, still my memories live and letting them go and putting them away in a trunk or scrapbook seems at moments to be unbearable. For today, I will cherish the time I have to review the past and ponder the future.

Spring Flower

OMG. We are having some warm weather, with sunshine and everything. Some flowers are popping up. All you have to do is drive into town to see all of the damage the snow storm did a couple of days ago. Beautiful blossomed fruit trees are broke everywhere. I doubt that foot of snow will do much for fruit production this year. Well the next snow storm will be Saturday. But in the meantime, I want to share one of the crocus with you.

Garage Sale Update

I hope I have not burned you all out on my garage sale wows. We were able to only hold the sale of Saturday, so we will do it again next weekend. A lot of my furniture sold early in the day. I am already thinking about my next decorating ideas. Here is a fun book I keep by my bed, this book is from Leisure Arts. Leisure Arts has always done a great job with their books. I have a thing for lamps. And I am always looking for lamps that not only offer soft light to a room but also atmosphere. And cute lamp shades are a passion of mine. What cottage would be without well dressed lamps? I enjoy keeping my decorating books at my bedside, they are such a great way to relax.

Dare to be "Remarkable"!

I am sure most of you have heard the remarkable Susan Boyle story. Her incredible popularity worldwide has touched people everywhere. She has touched them in the most tender of places, in their hearts. I like many shed a few tears. I was moved not only by the beauty of her voice, I was moved by the beauty of her spirit. I think there are many of us who feel that we have not sung our "song" or danced our "dance".
It is so obvious watching Susan, that she has spent years doing what was in her heart, her singing. The remarkable part was when she took that step forward, being willing to put it all out there, her heart, her spirit, her reputation and her song.
Today is Friday and for those who have read this post. I hope you will ponder this weekend about the things that are remarkable about you. For myself I am searching within the chambers of my heart, allowing myself to believe that there is something remarkable about me too. We need more Susan Boyles. We need reminded often that, while we are seemingly ordinary people, we have the spirit in each of us to be remarkable.

I have a dream

Susan Boyle, your are going to love her!!!! Make sure you click on the post title. This is the one thing you should do for yourself today. If you haven't heard about this, you need to just look around she is everywhere! I spotted her a couple of days ago and she had less than 500,000 views on YouTube. Within about 24 hours she had close to 6 million views on the YouTube that had been posted about the Britan's Got Talent show. This is a must see if you are a man or woman in transition or middle aged. Or anyone who wonders what the possiblities in the world could be for you. Hugs for all of you!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY

Garage Sale Items

As you can probably see, moving has taken over my mind. Easter is this coming weekend and we haven't seen the sun for awhile. Dismal! Our Easter plans have been put on hold because of our move. I thought that some of you may enjoy seeing what I will be putting out for sale. Wish me luck, this is not a fun job. I love my "stuff".

Garage Sale Finds

So, last weekend was a bust for shopping at the local garage sales. Seems that Mother Nature had a mind of her own and we had high winds that eventually lead to snow. All in all, it was cold and wet. Quite disappointing. I am posting a few finds from last summer. Many of these items will go in my garage sale since we will be moving soon.

Garage Sale Signs

I am anticipating holding my own moving sale. I love getting inspired by visiting Flickr. This garage sale sign should have been made for me. Here is the address of the posting. http://www.flickr.com/photos/barkerland/2878836843/

Garage Sale Season

Well if the weather will clear up tomorrow, I would love to go out shopping garage sales. There is a certain kind of high that I get when I have scored the "great deal". So I can't wait to get up early and catch some good sales.
